TaurusTaurus: Divinatory Meaning

As the second sign of the zodiac, Taurus represents the second stage in the evolution of man and his place in the universe. The first thing man uses are his physical senses. What he can see, touch, and physically hold represents the reality of his position. Taureans seek to conserve physical resources and possessively cling to people whom they regard as their own. Personal security is their motivating force.

Taureans are stubborn and go at their own pace : slow. They get frustrated if not given enough time to assimilate new things. But they accomplish things in life because of their tenacity in sticking to projects in which others have long since lost patience or stamina. A Fixed sign and Bull-headed (as their symbol shows), they can be extremely formidable to those who try to force them into anything. It takes a lot to anger a Taurean, but once they do, do not argue with them. It is best to approach them indirectly. They will willingly follow someone they trust.

Venus, planet of beauty and pleasure, rules Taurus, and it gives its natives a tactile and sensuous nature, who love personal comfort and physical pleasure. Possessions and material things are very important. Taurus is the money sign of the Zodiac. But money is only a symbol of value, not value itself. Be careful not to get locked into the world of matter. The unevolved can resort to possessiveness and hoarding, confusing security with control and the tangible.

Being Earth, however, they are pragmatic and practical. They have a love of Nature and the land, as well as art, and may have a very pleasant voice.

With a methodical nature, they do best with a regular routine. They are not fond of change. This can hamper them if taken too far, making them afraid to take a chance, too conservative in their outlook, and preferring the old tried and true to anything new, and succumbing to habit. Taureans should also watch their love of rich food as they are likely to put on weight.

The test of Taurus is to find what is of real value.

Medically Speaking

Taurus rules the throat, tonsils, and the thyroid gland, the cerebellum, neck, vocal chords, tongue, mouth, lower teeth, right eye of the male and left eye of the female, upper food pipe, the gums and the middle ear. Watch for throat infections, goiter and respiratory ailments such as asthma. There can be diseases of the generative organs, liver, and kidneys, and of abscesses and rheumatism. Because their body type has an inclination to physical laziness, Taureans can be overweight.

Kabbalistic Connection

The Book of Formation says, “He crowned the letter Pei and created with it Venus in the world and Thursday in the year and the left nostril in the soul, He crowned the letter Vav and created with it Taurus in the world and Iyar in the year and the left hand in the soul.”

The letters Pei and Vav control the month of Iyar, and the constellation of Taurus.

Iyar is the second month after Nissan, and is completely under the influence of the period known as the Counting of the Omer. When Moses took the Israelites out of Egypt, they received freedom, liberty, and liberation without any effort. For that reason, the Light of Passover disappeared; in order to give us the opportunity to work and earn all that Light that we received for free.

The Planet Venus

posted by admin

VenusVENUS is Earth’s closest neighbor and sometimes referred to as a sister planet. She represents our need for balance, love, peace, and harmony. Venus rules diplomacy, cooperation, beauty, nature, the arts, affection, social life, pleasure and happiness.

Venus represents pleasure, the enjoyment of relationships, loving and caring. It helps us to decide what is relevant to well being and happiness, what is irrelevant, and what is bad. It is the urge to seek companionship and love to feel good about ourselves, so has to do with self-esteem. Venus is the subconscious desire to form unions with others, and is our willingness to co-operate. It also allows us to enjoy the things that bring pleasure – aesthetics as well as physical. It is not a highly energetic drive (it can be rather lazy), but one that enables us to seek relatedness.

Venus is the planet of love, higher emotions and artistic sensibility. The aspects and positions of Venus in a natal chart indicate how the subject deals with relationships, sexuality and social interaction, as well as their capacity for creating and appreciating beauty.

The feminine planet, influences affection, sex-appeal, attachments, calm, companionship, gentle, the sense of touch, unity, sympathy, harmony, evaluation, feelings, refined amusements, love, beauty, arts, music, colour and adornments, good humour, tact, generosity, warm, soothing and fruitful.

Venus shows our values and our need and capacity for love. This planet shows aesthetic preferences and the natural attraction we feel to people and things. Venus represents the need for inner and outer harmony and balance. It is associated with the inner feelings we have when we compare and make judgements. Venus also represents sisters and other influential women, as well as our experience of the emotional harmony between our parents. The Sign Venus is in indicates how our values are coloured and what specific aesthetic styles we adopt. Choices of partner are strongly influenced by this Sign position. Venus is always found close to the Sun in the horoscope – either in the same sign, or in one of the two signs alongside the Sun. The House Venus is in shows in what particular area of life we find love, companionship and partnership, and where we have the strongest and most rewarding emotional contacts. This House shows what we value specifically, and where we can be enriched both emotionally and financially. Aspects to Venus indicate specific experiences in love relationships and the individual psychological needs that colour our judgement when making choices.

Venus takes about 1 year to transit the chart. (up to 1°15’ / day)

" This Venus graceth, here she seats her Throne,
And in the World’s high Face erects her own;
That Face, whose awful force Mankind admires,
And yields Obedience to her pleasing Fires:
Her charge is Marriage, for what else can prove
The Office of the beauteous Queen of Love?
Pleasure’s her aim, yet she forgets her Ease
And puts on Providence on design to please
My Muse grows weary, and contracts her pace,
Refusing to expatiate in her Race."

Astronomica, Book II Chapter 33, Verse 21, Marcus Manilius c 10 AD.

MYTHOLOGY

Aphrodite was known as the Greek goddess of love, beauty, sexual desire and fertility. According to Hesiod, she was born when Uranus, father of the gods, was castrated and his genitals thrown into the sea. Uranus’s genitalia and the sea foam it mingled with are the supposed parents of Aphrodite, who rose from the foam and was carried by waves to Cyprus. This is why she was named Aphrodite, which literally means "foam-born", and is also known as Kypris and Cytherea.

In Roman Mythology Venus was said to be the daughter of Jupiter, although she was born of the Sea and the Sky and came to earth in a shell from under the sea. The Roman goddess of love and beauty was originally a vegetation goddess and patroness of gardens and vineyards.

Aphrodite had affairs with gods and humans but her true love was Mars. She was forced by the god Jupiter to marry Vulcan, a blacksmith. Venus had a son named Cupid, the mischievous and winged god of love. He was her constant companion; and, armed with bow and arrows, he shot the arrows of desire into the bosoms of both gods and men. He later married Psyche and they produced a child named Pleasure.

Venus is, of course, associated with affairs of the heart. The last great temple of Venus was built by the emperor Hadrianus near the Colosseum in 135 AD.

IN THE CHART

Astrologically Venus is seen as the feelings, an indicator of your values. A planet of fortune, pursuit of pleasure, beauty in form, social interactions, an indicator in your chart of your inclinations towards romance, marriage and other partnerships.

Refiner of the aesthetic and artistic and giver of the sentiments of love and sharing. Venus is the goddess of love and beauty and where Mars uses physical force, Venus seduces and persuades.

All things that are pleasant and leisurely are symbolised by Venus. Her domain is music, art, games, dancing, acting and all things that are used for adornment or ornamentation, such as perfumes, cosmetics, jewelry and fine fabrics.

As Lady Luck she has special significance for gamblers. A feminine planet, her action is to pacify, harmonise, make beautiful and soften. How Venus will manifest her energy, a soft and cooling one which seeks harmony and an indicator of your inclinations and values, depends on the horoscope as a whole. The Sign (and its Element), the House in which if falls, and the Aspects to the other planets will all have a bearing on any interpretation.

MEDICAL VENUS

TFrom the days of Hippocrates, father of Western medicine (Fifth century B. C.), the ancients emphasized the value of diet and exercise as the prime methods of restoration of health and longevity. The ancient figurines of women, known as the "Venus statues", depict a bottom heavy, obese figure of a woman. Some of these Paleolithic figurines are believed to be more than 20,000 years old. They are found in all areas of Europe, as far away as Russia, and they all show women with huge, fat hips and buttocks. Today, it is known as the "Venus Syndrome", the connection between Venus and the lower body fat, today referred to as "cellulite" – the thickening and laxity of connective tissue beneath the skin, around gelatinous pockets of fat, which traps toxic matter and body wastes.

Venus is the principle of harmony, equilibrium, homeostasis, and thus rules the body’s hormonal secretions. The Moon and Venus rule strongly over the affairs and health of women. It rules over all regulatory and secretory functions, especially the female sexual hormones. It rules the chemical composition of the body’s fluids, acidity and alkalinity, sodium-potassium balance, and the other mineral ions. The planet is basically benefic in action, but in hard aspect frequently points to numerous little disorders, showing a general relaxation of the system and body tone, but eventually debilitates the native as the years pass. Its afflictions are generally maladies due to indiscretions in diet and habit.

PATHOLOGICAL TENDENCIES: Venus has traditionally been associated with diabetes. Hard aspects to Venus point to lack of homeostasis, lack of tone, congestion and swelling of the body’s tissues; cyst formation; and kidney disorders. Venus also rules over the veins and indicates such disorders as varicose veins, hemorrhoids, vascular spiders, etc.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: Homeostasis, hormonal balance, ovaries, kidneys, venous system, tissue tone, nutritional functions, skin and complexion.

Venus rules the throat, kidneys, veins, ovaries and generative system, hair, thyroid gland, oesophagus, skin, social diseases, anorexia.

VENUS 75 / 1225

“It is affirmed by Magicians, that there are certain tables of numbers distributed to the seven planets, which they call the sacred tables of the planets, …

“The fifth table is of Venus, consisting of a square of seven drawn into it self, viz. of fourty nine numbers, whereof seven on each side and Diameter make 175. and the sum of all is 1225. And there are over it divine names with an Intelligency to good, and spirit to evil; And there is drawn out of it the Character of Venus, and the spirits thereof. This being engraven on a Silver plate, Venus being fortunate, procureth concord, endeth strife, procureth the love of women, conduceth to conception, is good against barreness, causeth ability for generation, dissolves enchantments, and causeth peace between man, and woman, and maketh all kind of Animals and Cattle fruitful; and being put into a Dove-house, causeth an increase of Pigeons. It conduceth to the cure of all melancholy distempers, and causeth joyfulness; and being carryed about travellers make them fortunate. But if it be formed upon Brass with an unfortunate Venus, it causeth contrary things to all that hath bin above said."

Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa: Of Occult Philosophy, Book II (circa 1510)
