ScorpioScorpio: Divinatory Meaning

Scorpio (8th house) is the Death sign and it is – in terms of the Soul and Personality. The Personality must die and give way to the Soul. It is the only sign with three symbols, indicating the mental, physical and emotional parts of the personality: the Scorpion who would rather sting himself to death than to pass up a chance at revenge, the Eagle who can fly close to the sun (Spirit), and the Phoenix who rises out of his own ashes. Where you find Scorpio in your chart is where transformation and resurrection must take place.

All water signs are emotional, but Scorpions are particularly irrational when it comes to their emotions. They go to extremes, in both positive and negative respects. There is only black and white in the world of the Scorpion; no gray areas. If you are not their friend, then you are by default their enemy, and you will most definitely be treated that way. As the Left Column of the water signs, Scorpios have a tremendous desire for power and control, and seek these measures at any cost. They do not waver, they do not falter, and they stay their course with total determination and strength, which can sometimes result in unnecessary force and violence.

Pluto rules life and death (transformation and ressurection), as well as the power and energy of the seed, which at best manifests itself as new life. It also gives Scorpios deep sexual desires that are rooted in the compulsion to propagate the human race. In their efforts to “be fruitful and multiply,” Scorpios can go so far as to damage their reproductive and sexual organs, leading to impotency, infertility, and cancer. Scorpio is a fixed sign, which means that they do not like change and want to harness total control over their lives and the lives of those around them. Their greatest fear is to lose control. In the Scorpio world of extremes, love is everything. If they feel their love is not reciprocated, this love can turn into hate. It is very difficult for Scorpios to forgive and forget. The typical Scorpio will not rest until he has hunted you down!

Scorpios see the world in black and white. People and relationships are being measured as friends and enemies. They are thorough; that is why they are not so easy to get along with. They can see right through you. A common physical trait are their penetrating eyes. They have the ability to find your weaknesses and strike. They are formidable enemies.

Scorpio is the symbol of sex and Scorpios are passionate lovers, the most sensually energetic of all the signs. For them, union with the beloved is a sacrament, discovering the meaning of that union which is greater than individuality, and is a marriage of the spirit as well as of flesh. They are capable of the greatest heights of passionate transport, but debauchery and perversion are always dangers, and Scorpios can become sadistic monsters of sensuality and eroticism.

They are good business people. They love money, money is power, and Power is everything — but they are truly powerful when they do not seek it for themselves. They are also good in politics, medicine, and research. They have the potential to be honest and straight, or go to the other way, to be famous mobsters and members of the crime world. It is no coincidence that the mob world is called the "Underworld" and is exactly what Pluto rules!

Scorpio’s biggest challenge is to use their power and talent for good, to relinquish control, to compromise with others. Scorpios get along with other water signs (Pisces and Cancer) and earth signs (Taurus, Capricorn and Virgo). It is very hard for Scorpios to get along with fire signs, especially with Leo, being the Left Column of fire opposite the water. Air signs also have trouble with Scorpio, since the Scorpio is too controlling and possessive, and no one can control air. As hard as they are to get along with, it is through cooperation within relationships, that they will achieve transformation. Their goals are reached through service, purity, compassion, and humility. Then they are truly magnanimous. Then they can be the strongest and most positive people to bring Light into the world.

Medically Speaking

Scorpio governs the pelvis and reproductive and urinary systems and its subjects are said to be prone to ailments of the liver and kidneys, stones and gravel in the bladder or genitals, and other genital ills such as priapism. Abscesses, boils, carbuncles, fistulas, piles, ruptures and ulcers may also affect the Scorpions.

Kabbalistic Connection

The astrological month of Scorpio, or as it is called in Hebrew Mar-Cheshvan (Bitter Cheshvan), is the Left column water sign, and is ruled by the plant Mars (Ma’adim) and Pluto.

The Book of Formation speaks of seven planets in the solar system. In the last century, three more planets were revealed and as a result, Pluto has been found to bear influence on the sign of Scorpio.

Mars, the traditional ruler of the month of Scorpio, is the planet and Greek god of war, which makes all Scorpios warriors who have the drive to eliminate their enemy no matter what toll it takes on anyone else. This is the hardest Tikun (correction) of Scorpions – to find the Central Column, control the urge to avenge, and to live, love and let go. Mar-Cheshvan, as the month is formally known, in Hebrew means bitter Cheshvan. However, it can be transformed into Ram Cheshvan (elevated Cheshvan). Our job throughout the month is to transform that which is bitter into sweet, that which is lowly to lofty. It takes a strong consciousness and self-control to achieve this transformation.

Hades is not to be soothed, neither overcome, wherefore he is most hated by mortals of all gods. [Agamemnon. Homer, Iliad 9.158] blessed one, be kindly in heart and help those who voyage in ships! – Homer.

Charon PlutoPLUTO represents the drive to transform, to completely change, to dig into the  deepest, darkest parts of the self. It can urge us to be destructive, but also to bring about positive reformation and complete changes. It connects to the deepest, unconscious side of the personality, and the realms of the collective unconscious; so through Pluto we can be swept along with the flood tides of collective change. This occurs outwardly through death and destruction but there is a part of us that is compulsively attracted to the darker side of humanity, so it is often experienced as an urge to investigate and uncover the complex issues of the human condition. We might call it the urge to turn life into something entirely new by completely destroying old habits, old relationships, old affiliations, so as to effect rebirth of some part of the psyche. It represents our fascination with evil, and dark forces, but is an instinctive understanding that freedom is found by eliminating parts of the self and life that tie us too close to material life. Thus it represents the highest and deepest form of death and rebirth to a spiritual dimension. It can evoke violence and forceful passions in people and as a collective energy can have a mass effect as much as a personal one.

Pluto symbolizes the capacity to change totally and forever a person’s lifestyle, thought and behavior. Pluto rules all the powerful forces of creation and destruction. Pluto is transcendental courage and guts. It gives us new life by forcing us to face death. It destroys to rebuild, and it kills the old self that we may be born anew. It charts the rise and fall of all civilizations and power structures. It rules groups, syndicates and all who pool their resources to boost their power. It can release wealth and opportunity never before dreamed of. It is sexuality and fertility, and represents the secrets of biology and the mysteries of creation. Pluto is linked to the sign of Scorpio and the Eighth House. Pluto revolves around the sun once every two hundred and forty-eight years. In a natal chart, the aspects and position of Pluto indicate areas of life in which the subject is capable of making fundamental changes, for better or for worse.

The Greek ‘Plouton’ is derived from ploutos ‘wealth’, which according to an ancient scholar originally referred to grain. This fits Pluto’s association with the Earth and his role as the husband of the fertility goddess Persephone, though it says nothing of the astrological Pluto. But Pluto’s role as a god of death is clearly appropriate to its astrological influence.

Pluto transits the chart in 248 years (about 1° per year).

MYTHOLOGY:

The planet received this name because it’s so far from the Sun that it is in perpetual darkness – the position that Saturn was thought to be in, in antiquity.

Anubis was the Egyptian god of the dead. Later he was superseded in that role by Osiris. He reached the Greeks as Hades who was the son of the Titans Cronus (Saturn) and Rhea and the brother of Zeus (Jupiter) and Poseidon ( Neptune ).

When the three brothers divided up the universe after they had deposed their father, Cronus, Hades was awarded the underworld. He was originally considered a fierce and unyielding god, deaf to prayers and unappeased even by sacrifices. In later cults and popular belief the milder and more beneficent aspects of the god were stressed. Believed to be the bestower of the blessings hidden in the earth, such as mineral wealth and crops, Pluto also displayed another aspect as Dis or Orcus, the giver of wealth.

The idea was that Ouranos, the father of the gods, had disintegrated and descended physically from Heaven to Earth, whereupon Gaia bore a metaphysical image of Ouranos in the sky, henceforth to be called Mount Olympus, and a metaphysical image of his ‘children’, henceforth to be called the gods.

IN THE CHART

Third of the Modern planets – those discovered in modern times and not seen with the naked eye.

Pluto was discovered in 1930 and takes 248 years to go around the Sun. Though very small, its influence is completely disproportionate to its size. It brings total transformations. Drawing deep psychological issues up out of the unconsciousness it has a purging function. Its influence focuses on power and power misuse, or feelings of alienation. Pluto has a very irregular orbit and can be in any one Sign from 14 years in the 20th century – to over 30 years at other times. Its influence in a Sign is felt more on a collective than a personal level. The Sign position of Pluto shows in what area of society total transformations take place – often with rather catastrophic consequences. Pluto roots out basic imbalances, replacing corruption with something totally new. It brings a death and rebirth process. The House position of Pluto shows in what specific area of your life you focus too intensely and have a corrupt or fanatic drive for intensity or control. This area shows where you have experienced trauma – at some point in the life a total transformation will take place here. In this area the doors to your unconscious will open. The aspects Pluto makes show the most intense psychological drives in your personality. In these areas of your personality you will be most magnetic and dominating. This stems from an unconscious need for control, which in turn stems from a deep fear of being powerless. Crises and transformation will arise in these areas.

On a personal level it can bring total transformation, drawing deep psychological issues up out of the unconsciousness and purging them; this means being broken down to the point where you must rebuild yourself completely. Been there, done that; not fun. Its influence focuses on power and the misuse of power or feelings of alienation and the experience of trauma. Its action is to isolate, transmute and re-enforce.

How Pluto will manifest its energy depends on the horoscope as a whole. The Sign (and its Element), the House in which it falls, and the Aspects to the other planets will all have a bearing on any interpretation.

It represents the urge to Transform or Regenerate and the start of New Beginnings. Pluto shows the most intense psychological drives in your personality. In these areas of your personality you will be at your most magnetic and dominating.

MEDICAL PLUTO

Just as your Sun sign represents your true identity in this life, Pluto’s house represents an old pattern of identity from the past. It is a past pattern of life that is carried over into this life. We can say that Pluto’s house is that area of life where complete regeneration is needed. Compulsive behavior and even ruthlessness needs to be transformed into willful intentions yielding great powers of perception and insight into the subtle forces of life. Plutonian people can make great healers simply by touch or vision.

The aspects of Pluto to other planets gives an indication as to how that transformation can bring new understanding and regeneration. Whether the aspect is "hard" as in square or opposition, or "easy" as in a trine or sextile, determines whether one has an innate knowing, or will meet some hard karmic destiny. There is an enormous potential for power by discovering those fields of experience in the house of Pluto. It heals when it is tapped.

PATHOLOGICAL TENDENCIES: Medically, Pluto’s energy is concerned with eliminative processes, both physical and spiritual. The energy represented by Pluto is life-giving and cleansing. Pluto’s transits are said to destroy the old forms in order to bring in the new. It’s pathological manifestations are abscesses, malignancies, ulcers, and poisonous bites.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: Reproduction, defecation, expulsion of waste matter.

Pluto rules the prostate, tumors, hormones, cancer cells, asthma, hay fever, polyps, finger and toe nails, skin ailments.

The Planet Mars

posted by admin

MARS is known as the "lesser unfortunate" ( Saturn being the "greater unfortunate") and both are considered malefic planets. It stands for strength, competition, energy, drive, courage, initiative, impulsiveness, self-assertion, war, violence, quarrels and accidents. It signifies soldiers, pioneers, and agitators. Mars rules the sex organs, bladder, muscular system, head, face, left ear, the sense of taste, blood poison, sexually transmitted diseases, hemorrhoids, burns, accidents, cuts, scalds, influenza, kidneys, inflammatory conditions.

Mars takes about 2.5 years to transit the chart – (up to 0°40’ / day).

From the operations of Mars they made an Image in the hour of Mars, Mars being in the second face of Aries, in a Martiall stone, especially in a Diamond; The form of which was a man armed, riding upon a Lyon [lion], having in his right hand a naked sword erected, carrying in his left hand the head of a man; they report, that an Image of this kind rendreth a man powerfull in good and evill, so that he shall be feared of all; and whosoever carryeth it they give him the power of enchantment, so that he shall terrifie men by his looks when he is angry, and stupifie them; they made another Image of Mars for the obtaining of boldness, courage, and good fortune in wars, and contentions, the form of which was a souldier armed and crowned, girt with a sword, carrying in his right hand a long Lance; and they made this at the hour of Mars, the first face of Scorpio ascending with it.

IN THE CHART

Mars shows challenges and the ability to meet them bravely. Mars is connected with the muscular system. The Sign Mars is in represents the particular psychological area in which we express our energy. Mars takes 2 years to go around the Sun, as it is in each sign for approximately 2 months. In a woman’s horoscope it represents the type of men she is attracted to, in a man’s his own attitude to men, competitiveness and masculinity.

The House Mars is in shows the specific area where you want to tend to invest energy. Mars is the Ego in action, an aggressive planet which causes divisions and splits between mankind, but is also the giver of courage and physical energy. In Mars we find great risk-taking, physical energy, and the symbolism of fighting, argument, hostility and hot-headed action. This house will also show where one is most dynamic, where men are encountered, and where one is confronted with issues of power. Battles are fought in this area. It energizes, stimulates, inflames, spurs to action, intensifies and aggravates.

Aspects to Mars show the way we use our energy and special talents for particular kinds of work.
A heavily afflicted Mars in a natal chart may give the subject impulsive or violent tendencies. Favorable influences may channel the energy of Mars more positively, into strength, determination and achievement, for example.

Mars represents athletes, soldiers and weapons, in fact any cutting implement, and so associates with surgeons and blood. It is a planet of boldness, courage, competitiveness and connects with violence, anger and murder. Mars represents passion, desire, energy, assertiveness, courage and initiative.
How Mars will manifest its energy, the force of life and creator of matter out of spirit, depends on the horoscope as a whole. The Sign (and its Element), the House in which if falls, and the Aspects to the other planets will all have a bearing on any interpretation. Mars represents drive and masculinity, as well as issues connected with sexuality and power. It indicates the work we choose and the way we approach it. Mars is strongly associated with the experience of brothers, the father and men in general. Where Mars is there is trouble, but also the fighting instinct to get on in life. Mars shows challenges and the ability to meet them bravely. Mars is also connected with the muscular system.

When a chart is receiving a Mars contact it will indicate that anger, motivation, or drive is being activated. The reason is enthused with an idea or feeling. This idea may plunge the reason into physical activities, to experience strong sexual motivation, encounter angry people, or even cause the person to be part of an accident.

MEDICAL MARS

Mars is known as the "lesser unfortunate", and Saturn is known as the "greater unfortunate", as both are considered malefic planets. The action of Mars is acute and violent, heating, inflammatory, and febrile. Mars rules one’s physical energy, expressed as either self-assertiveness and healthy efforts, or aggression and hostility. Mars actions include arousal, erection, and penetration. Mars diseases are traumatic, contagious, burning, blistering, leaving scars, pock marks, and disfigurements. They are diseases that arise from anger, frustration, madness, and wickedness. When Mars is well aspected, it shows a strong constitution, good physical endurance and independence. Natives under strong benefic influence are practical, handle instruments well, and make good surgeons and dentists. When unfavorably aspected, the native is prone to fits of fury, argumentative, and accident-prone.

Esoterically speaking, Mars, like the Moon, is one of the planets that loses its influence as spiritual faculties are developed. It is a planetary influence where its principal expression – anger – always brings reciprocal negative reactions of the worst kind. To better understand its influence in the native, the house location indicates the external conditions in the life of the native that needs spiritual development. The zodiac sign location of Mars indicates the body’s susceptible areas where the negative emotion of anger will raise havoc and disorder.

PATHOLOGICAL TENDENCIES:
Inflammations and scars on the body parts ruled by the zodiac sign or house of its placement; alterations in blood chemistry, especially glucose, calcium, magnesium; geloses and myogeloses in muscular tissues; liver torpidity and congestion; genitourinary infections; hypertension and hypertensive headaches, migraine.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: Body heat, inflammatory response, adrenal function, formation of hemoglobin and blood clots, digestion of food, muscular activity, glycogen storage and liver function, genitals.

DEATH in CLASSICAL INTERPRETATION

Jupiter causes death through strangulation, pneumonia, apoplexy, spasms, headaches, and cardiac affections, and such conditions as are accompanied by irregularity of foulness of breath. … Thus, then, those who depart from life in the way described die natural deaths, whenever the lords of death happen to be in their own or in kindred natural characters, and if no planet that is able to do injury to make the end more remarkable overcomes them. They die, however, by violent and conspicuous means whenever both the evil planets dominate the destructive places, either in conjunction, or in quartile, or in opposition, or also if one of the two, or both, seize upon the sun, or the moon, or both the luminaries.
Ptolemy Tetrabiblos (2nd century CE)

MARS = 65 / 325

“It is affirmed by Magicians, that there are certain tables of numbers distributed to the seven planets, which they call the sacred tables of the planets, …

The third table belongs to Mars, which is made of a square of five containing twenty five numbers, and of these in every side and Diameter five, which make sixty five, and the sum of all is 325. And there are over it Divine names… [and so forth]. These with Mars being fortunate, being engraven on an Iron plate, or sword, makes a man potent in war, and judgments, and petitions, and terrible to his enemies, and victorious against them; and if engraven upon the Stone Correola, it stops blood, and the mestrues [menses]; but if it be engraven with Mars being unfortunate, on a plate of red Brass, it hinders buildings, casts down the powerfull from dignities, honors, and riches, and causeth discord, strife, and hatred of men, and beasts, chaseth away Bees, Pigeons, and Fish, and hinders Mils, and renders them unfortunate that go forth to hunting, or fighting, and causeth barreness in men and women, and other Animals, and strikes a terror in all enemies, and compels them to submit.

Fixed Signs

Fixed Signs

The Fixed Signs like the status quo and will put up with almost anything rather than have to make any kind of changes. They like a routine, their routine, they like knowing what to expect tomorrow and the next day, and for this reason, will stick to something longer than they should, rather than edit anything. They are determined, persistent, stubborn, strong-willed, resolute, stable. Their minds are penetrating, and memories are excellent.

These signs are the middle months of each season.

The Fixed Signs doe in order follow the Equinoctial and Tropicks; and they are called fixed, for that when Sun enters into them, the season of the yeer is fixed, and we doe more evidently perceive either Heat or Cold, Moysture or Drinesse. The fixed Signes are these, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius.
— William Lilly, Christian Astrology (1647)

Others are called immovable, and they are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius,
for they are the middle ones and the air stays in one element.

— Avraham Ibn Eza (1092-1167 C.E), The Book of Reasons

HOUSES: The Succeedent Houses (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th) correspond to the Fixed Signs. Not as powerful as the Angular placements, they denote financial affairs, stability, and purpose.

TAURUS (Fixed Earth)

Taurus: Keywords are stubborn, materialistic, sensual. The most "fixed" of the fixed signs. People with several placements here (particularly Venus) incline to the more material, sensual side of life — and laziness.

LEO (Fixed Fire)

Leo: Keywords are flamboyant, showy, playful. This is the sign of show business. No matter what the profession, the typical Leo sun-sign (and Sun-ruled) people act as if they are on stage. They carry themselves regally. They need the attention, the applause, no matter what their profession.

SCORPIO (Fixed Water)

Scorpio: Keywords are secretive, obsessive, sexy. Scorpio has a talent for uncovering secrets, but you will never get anything out of them that they are not willing to share. Scorpio placements are good for any profession involving healing (death and rebirth – Pluto-ruled) or investigating (detective, scientific investigations, etc.). The tendency to extremes affects other areas of the life as well. The negative side of Scorpio is jealously and vengeance.

AQUARIUS (Fixed Air)

Aquarius: Keywords are strange, unusual, shocking, far-out, peculiar, socially-unacceptable, and all these only on a slow day! Uranus-ruled, this is also the sign of genius. In the horoscope, it shows where we have the potential to transcend the ordinary. This is also the sign of friendship; Aquarius sun-sign folks are said to be closer to their friends than to their own families.

*Trivia: Did you know that the Tarot major arcana card The World features the 4 fixed signs in the corners?

The Water Element

posted by admin

The Water Triplicity is represented by the lymphatic temperament exhibiting as languid, anemic, pallid, weak-pulsed, lack of red corpuscles in the blood, and deficient vascular action.

The water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) are known as emotional, plastic, contemplative. They tend to feel things very deeply and function from an emotional level whether that be in a positive or negative manner.

These are the emotional signs, those capable of exercising compassion, feeling love (and hate), and expressing affection. By their sensitivity they moderate the ideas of air, the unimaginative practicality of earth and the careless energy of fire. With their imagination and dreams they provide human life
with its religious and mystical spirituality.

Related HOUSES : The 4th (end of physical body), 8th (death & liberation of soul), & 12th (results of our choices) houses are naturally ruled by Water signs and are considered the Houses of Endings or the Terminal Houses. Many planets in these houses describes someone who is emotional, sensitive, spiritual.

Keywords: addictive, artistic, broody, caring, compassionate, controlling, destructive, dreamy, easy-going, emotional, feeling, grasping, healing, hoarding, intuitive, kind, lacking in standards or morals, moody, over-emotional, protective, receptive, revengeful, sacrificial, sensitive, smothering, spiritual, supportive, sympathetic, untidy.

In Medical Astrology and Astro-Meteorology the Water element is of the humour Phlegmatic, being cold and moist. Planets that are such are Moon and Venus.

CANCER: Cardinal Water

Cancer: In the Zodiac, it follows the air sign, Gemini. Gemini is like a toddler whose attention can be easily distracted, flitting from thing to thing. Cardinal Cancer is like a toddler who grabs on to something, won’t let go, and throws a tantrum when mommy or daddy tries to take it away. And the Cancer mood swings are legendary.

Let me give you a few tips about dealing with those who have the sign of Cancer strong in their horoscopes (the Sun, Moon, or Ascendant in Cancer). In this case, you can include those who have the Moon within six degrees of the Ascendant as well.

Cancer men who travel are known for setting up comfortable places they tend to revisit – like a girl in every port. All kidding aside, Cancerians need that security.

The house with the sign of Cancer on the cusp shows one of the places in or lives where we can be loving and nurturing, protecting the helpless (including animals). On the negative side, it can show where we can be moody and irrationally needy. This is the area of our lives where, if we can’t get our way, we tend to retreat while grasping and holding onto anything that gives us the illusion of security.

The other area of our lives where we can act like this is shown by the house occupied by the ruler of the sign of Cancer, the Moon.

SCORPIO: Fixed Water

Scorpio: This is the sign of extremes, all or nothing. It follows the air sign Libra, sign of balance. To understand Scorpio, read the novels of Dostoyevsky, who was a Fixed Scorpio Sun-Sign, and examine the characters closely.

The house that has Scorpio at the cusp is one of the places in your life where you have the greatest potential for major Good or Evil. Power is the keyword of Scorpio / Pluto and one may be driven by compulsive “subconscious forces”.

All of the fixed signs tend to be stubborn and unyielding. Taurus is that way out of sheer inertia. Like a large boulder, once it starts moving, it simply can’t stop. Leo stands firm out of pride.  Aquarius, an Air sign, refuses to budge without a logical reason. With Scorpio, it is pure emotional intensity, the kind that can rise up when one is involved in a fight to the death.

Scorpio is super secretive. Don’t ever try to pry any personal information out of a Scorpio. You have to let them coem to you in their own time. This sign is the best natural born detective in the zodiac. If you want to know the dirt about someone, find a Scorpio Sun-Sign person who knows them.

PISCES: Mutable Water

Pisces: Pisces can be the most agreeable sign in the zodiac, mainly because they hate confrontation. People with a strong Pisces emphasis in their horoscopes seem to agree with almost anyone. If, a few minutes later, they happen to talk to someone with the opposite opinion, they will agree with them too. Then, they go off and something completely different from both. Deep down inside, Mutable Pisces doesn’t want to upset people. In fact, if you complain to a Pisces about trouble you are having with someone they don’t even know, they will start making excuses for that other person. They feel compassion for someone they never met.

Let me emphasize again that this refers only to the influence of this one sign. When doing a horoscope, you have to take the entire chart into account, and there are a myriad of other factors to consider besides the Sun-Sign. Richard Ramirez and John Wayne Gacy, both infamous serial killers were Pisces Sun-Signs, and they showed little compassion for their victims.

The House with Pisces on the cusp will be one of the places in your horoscope where you can be your most tolerant and compassionate, as well as your most imaginative, deluded, or even escapist. Pisces/Neptune can be self-destructive and refuse to deal with reality. The other place to watch for these things is the house where your planet Neptune is located.

CLASSICAL RULERSHIPS (traditional astrology)

This set of signs is ruled by Mars by day and also by night. Considered cold and moist.

Finally, the Cancer triplicity is nocturnal, comprising Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. The rulers of these signs are the Moon, Mars, and Jupiter, but because Jupiter is diurnal it is substituted for nocturnal Venus.

Aries trigon – Sun, Jupiter, Saturn
Cancer trigon – Venus, Mars, Moon
Libra trigon – Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter
Capricorn trigon – Venus, Moon, Mars

Most early astrologers used all three planets, rotating their priority by day and night, but many later ones, including Lilly, chose to use only the principal rulers. Perhaps they rejected the convoluted logic that lay behind the definition of sect, or perhaps they were confused by Ptolemy who only mentions two rulers for the Aries and Capricorn triplicities, yet mentions three rulers for the others!
