LeoLeo: Divinatory Meaning

Leo is the most vital of the signs and has tremendous strength. There is great courage inherent in this sign, but they must temper it with responsibility and self-discipline or they will have many problems. They have a self-assurance and confidence that boosts those around them – and can anger others who envy or want their power.

They have a powerful intelligence and are very creative; have a broad philosophical, sometimes religious, outlook. Those who are devout may become very obstinate in upholding traditional beliefs and will cling tenaciously, but with complete sincerity, to practices and doctrines which liberal thinkers regard as absurdly out-of-date. This stubborness is a trademark of all the Fixed signs.

The unevolved Leo will display extreme arrogance, autocratic pride, haughtiness, self-centeredness, power-lust, greed for flattery, boastfulness, pomposity, snobbish superiority, and overbearing, and intolerant disdain of underlings. Leo’s downfall is not relegating authority to others. They think they have to do it all and many succumb to heart attacks because they just wear themselves out.

In relationships, Leo has a strong loyalty to those they love. As their opposite, Aquarius, can be too detached, Leo can be too attached. They need to learn a bit of detachment and let the Sun shine out to others. No one can be a true leader unless he/she is willing to be the servant of all. Their gift to the world is an Understanding Heart.

Medically Speaking

Leo rules the heart, sides, and upper back (spine). Its natives are subject to a number of ailments: pain in the back and lungs, spinal complaints, diseases of the heart and blood, sickness in ribs and sides, convulsions, fevers; and the plague, pestilence, jaundice, and some afflictions of the eyes.

Kabbalistic Connection

Av is one of the three most negative months of the year. The other two are Tevet (Capricorn), because it is ruled by Saturn, which a planet of harsh judgments, and Tammuz (Cancer) because it is ruled by the moon. Av – sign of Leo – is ruled by the sun, and is the Left Column of the fire signs. This indicates an added influence of fire which is expressed as judgments, burning and consuming fire with no balance. This is the reason we experience a polarity of events, some negative and some positive. The Book of Formation says the letter Tet created Leo and the letter Caf created the sun. Together we get the energetic combination that controls the month of Av and Leo.

At the center of our solar system, the sun brings each of the planets light, heat and life, without which organic life could not exist.

But with the Egyptians the beginning of the year is not Aquarius, as among the Romans, but Cancer. For the star Sothis (Sirius) borders on Cancer, which star the Greeks denominate (Greek word) or the Dog. When this star rises they celebrate the calends of the month, which begins their year; because this is the place of the heavens where generation commences, by which the world subsists.

The Lights : The Sun

posted by admin

The SunThe SUN expresses our personal identity and awareness of conscious personality. It represents the realization of the ‘self’, the essence of ‘being’, and the vitality of life. Through the Sun we express our own individuality in a creative way. It symbolizes our life expression, the way we actively participate in worldly matters.  It constitutes the ego of the person, the aspirations, the Will.

Knowing who we are and being able to find a special place in life is probably the most powerful drive in the human psyche. People want to express themselves in the world in an individualistic and personal way. It is through the Sun that we personalize our experiences, because we have a sense of an inner "I". This determines what is relevant to each of us. So the Sun is our reality as we might understand it externally.

It is the male share of the personality, Yang, it represents all the male roles (the father, the husband, the head, etc). It makes it possible to interpret the image of the father and the man in general, the type of relation with them (that the subject is man or woman). However it seems to be more present in the topic of a man, since it represents all the male and positive values.

It is a star of heat, life, light, it thus emphasizes courage, honesty, the nobility, generosity but also pride, irritability, self-centredness.

In the topic of a woman, it tends to symbolize the father later then the husband even if it is always present in the personality of the woman: the Sun represents its ideal of man.

In the life, it represents youth, where his studies are finished, filled of ambition and hope.

MYTHOLOGY:

The Sun and Moon are the oldest and most visible of all mythological symbols. The male and female principles made visible in the sky.

Modern science has proven that without the sun life could not exist on Earth – something that mankind has known from earliest times!

From the astronomical calendar of Stonehenge, through to ancient Babylonians, Egyptians, Mayans, Incas; we know that Man has worshipped the Sun.

Usually taken as a male symbol – often partnered with the female Moon – the Sun is universally a symbol of power.

Known by many names throughout history, the sun god is often transformed into the head of the pantheon of gods in polytheistic religions. The solar principle has been personified by Brahma to the Hindus, Mithra to the Persians, Quetzalcoatl to the Aztecs, Helios to the Greeks.

The Egyptians personified the sun as Aton Ra and a moving Hymn to Ra has travelled down through the ages to us.

It takes one year for the Sun to complete the cycle of the 12 signs of the chart; approximately one degree each day, 30 degrees or one full sign) per month.

The Sun Rules : Leo (by day and night)
Fire triplicity by day

IN THE CHART

The Sun also symbolizes what is central for us – our identity, the Will, Individuality. Psychologically it represents our experience of the father and his influence or lack of influence on the building of our character and ability to express ourselves as individuals. It also symbolizes our creative drive and need to be visible. We strive to realise the qualities the Sun represents in our horoscope through a process of individuation throughout our life. This self-realization process is our highest goal.

The Sign the Sun is in shows the direction in which we strive to realise ourselves. The Sun changes sign every month. The qualities of this sign are like adjectives which colour our self-expression. We have to develop and perfect these qualities to truly find ourselves. The House the Sun is in indicates the specific area in the material world in which we manifest our identity. We will identify very strongly with the practical issues that this House represents. Self-realization comes through the matters connected with the House. The Aspects to our Sun show psychological influences on our identity which have to be integrated in some way. Aspects indicate specific effects that modify the expression of our identity and make us unique individuals. Aspects can also show quite precisely how we experienced the influence of the father, and how that modifies our attempts to become individuals.

The Sun sign tells us who we are, while the Rising Sign shows us who we feel we have to be to fit in to our environment. Since the Rising Sign represents the moment of birth (you can’t calculate your Rising Sign without your time of birth), the first place we have to fit into is our family. From there most of us have to learn to fit in to various situations – school, life in general, relationships, etc.

Where the Sun is a conscious, masculine and an outgoing energy that is easy to spot, the Moon is an unconscious, internal, feminine and an illogical energy. I look at the Sun as being what we want, while the Moon symbolism is what we need.

The Sun is what we aspire to, what we wish to believe of ourselves, how we express ourselves, our essential value, the "essence" of who we are. It represents vitality, leadership, creativity and the nobility of mankind. It often denotes those of high or noble birth and is important in relationships with superiors. Its action is to illuminate (obviously), stabilise, integrate, elevate and improve.

How the Sun will manifest its energy, it’s life-generating creative potential, depends on the horoscope as a whole. The Sign (and its Element), the House in which it falls, and the Aspects to the other planets, will all have a bearing on any interpretation.

The sign the Sun is in shows the direction in which we strive to realise ourselves. The Sun changes sign every month, defining your birth sign. The qualities of this sign are like adjectives, which colour our self-expression. We have to develop and perfect these qualities to truly find ourselves.

Transits and progressions to or from this luminary indicate events in the journey of life and a reassessment of personal identity. The person may experience this as life-threatening, or life-supporting. Either way, it is like turning the page in the story of life and getting on to the next “adventure”.

MEDICAL SUN

The Sun is the source of your vital power, principally ruling the brain and heart in man and woman. Its sign location (zodiac Sun sign), aspects to other planets, and house position indicate the vitality of the body, especially in males. The Sun is thus the indicator of health in males, while the Moon governs health matters in females. However, the Sun and Moon are important in health matters in both sexes. The Sun signs and Moon signs at birth, along with their aspects and positions, are regarded as the "fountains of life on Earth". The Sun is one of the vital centers in a star map, along with the Moon, Ascendant (rising sign), and Midheaven (tenth house).

The power of the Sun and how it radiates within you can be thought of as light rays emanating from a light bulb, powering into your body. The Sun signs are divided into the Four Elements: FIRE (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius); AIR (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius); WATER (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces); and EARTH (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn). All males born with the Sun in fire signs have the best prospects for good vitality, as light radiates most freely in a body composed of the fire element. Light also radiates freely in air, and these natives are the next strongest, but air sign people become weakened by worry and nervousness. They need rest to recuperate. The earth element for sunlight is linked with the densest matter, gives tenacity, wear and tear, rather than vitality. Theses individuals tend to recovery slowly from their illnesses. The water element for transmission of sunlight gives the weakest constitution, being a more difficult medium to manifest light (except Scorpio).

The Sun is the giver of life, but is quite impersonal in its influence that the average man or woman rarely contacts its higher qualities in a conscious or positive sense. Planetary aspects, even if hard (square or opposite), are better than no aspects at all, as in the latter, the native is hardly touched at all by its influence. This fact is the reason "Sun sign" prophecies found in the tabloids and daily paper make no sense to some individuals. When well placed, however, it signifies will power, authority, and self-reliance. If afflicted by the Moon or Ascendant, it will make the health feeble and the vitality low.

The Sun rules the metabolic fires of your body’s cells. Its placement represents how that energy is needed and distributed. Your body requires copious quantities of light from many sources to maintain your health, vitality, and beauty. Each Sun sign has recommended foods that tend to foster vitality, as well as dietary pointers, and warnings about certain foods that will disturb your body’s distribution of the Sun’s vital rays, indicative by your Sun’s zodiac placement (the season of the year in which you were born).

In terms of the Zodiac, the twelve signs represent the Grand Man, and rule the different parts of the body, from head as in Aries, to toe as in Pisces. Thus, there is a zodiacal rulership over the body and its organs. In terms of Sun signs and rising signs, it represents where disease potential exists. The locations and transits represent how an organ or bowel will be afflicted since these are rotating, dynamic entities. The houses at birth, signify why disorders will manifest.

Inharmonious aspects to the Sun are angles and locations of the other planets in their orbits in relationship to the Sun. They are called afflictions. For example, if the Sun is afflicted by a hard angle to the Moon, the health will be weak, and the rays of the Sun will be on the cold side, the eyesight will suffer.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: Vitality, the absorption of prana through the spleen, the immune system, heart function, spine and back, eyesight, individual cellular metabolism, the blood and oxygenation, consciousness.

The Sun rules the heart, spleen, upper back, lower spine, right eye for males, left eye for females, cerebral haemorrhage, skin cancer, hormones, glands.

SUN = 111/ 666

“It is affirmed by Magicians, that there are certain tables of numbers distributed to the seven planets, which they call the sacred tables of the planets, …

The fourth table is of the Sun, and is made of a square of six, and contains thirty six numbers, whereof six in every side, and Diameter, produce 111, and the sum of all is 666. There are over it divine names… [as before]. This being engraven on a Golden plate with the Sun being fortunate, renders him that wears it to be renowned, amiable, acceptable, potent in all his works, and equals a man to Kings, and Princes, elevating him to high fortunes, inabling to do whatsoever he pleaseth: but with an unfortunate Sun, it makes a tyrant, and a man to be proud, ambitious, unsatisfiable, and to have an ill ending.

Fixed Signs

Fixed Signs

The Fixed Signs like the status quo and will put up with almost anything rather than have to make any kind of changes. They like a routine, their routine, they like knowing what to expect tomorrow and the next day, and for this reason, will stick to something longer than they should, rather than edit anything. They are determined, persistent, stubborn, strong-willed, resolute, stable. Their minds are penetrating, and memories are excellent.

These signs are the middle months of each season.

The Fixed Signs doe in order follow the Equinoctial and Tropicks; and they are called fixed, for that when Sun enters into them, the season of the yeer is fixed, and we doe more evidently perceive either Heat or Cold, Moysture or Drinesse. The fixed Signes are these, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius.
— William Lilly, Christian Astrology (1647)

Others are called immovable, and they are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius,
for they are the middle ones and the air stays in one element.

— Avraham Ibn Eza (1092-1167 C.E), The Book of Reasons

HOUSES: The Succeedent Houses (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th) correspond to the Fixed Signs. Not as powerful as the Angular placements, they denote financial affairs, stability, and purpose.

TAURUS (Fixed Earth)

Taurus: Keywords are stubborn, materialistic, sensual. The most "fixed" of the fixed signs. People with several placements here (particularly Venus) incline to the more material, sensual side of life — and laziness.

LEO (Fixed Fire)

Leo: Keywords are flamboyant, showy, playful. This is the sign of show business. No matter what the profession, the typical Leo sun-sign (and Sun-ruled) people act as if they are on stage. They carry themselves regally. They need the attention, the applause, no matter what their profession.

SCORPIO (Fixed Water)

Scorpio: Keywords are secretive, obsessive, sexy. Scorpio has a talent for uncovering secrets, but you will never get anything out of them that they are not willing to share. Scorpio placements are good for any profession involving healing (death and rebirth – Pluto-ruled) or investigating (detective, scientific investigations, etc.). The tendency to extremes affects other areas of the life as well. The negative side of Scorpio is jealously and vengeance.

AQUARIUS (Fixed Air)

Aquarius: Keywords are strange, unusual, shocking, far-out, peculiar, socially-unacceptable, and all these only on a slow day! Uranus-ruled, this is also the sign of genius. In the horoscope, it shows where we have the potential to transcend the ordinary. This is also the sign of friendship; Aquarius sun-sign folks are said to be closer to their friends than to their own families.

*Trivia: Did you know that the Tarot major arcana card The World features the 4 fixed signs in the corners?

The Fire Element

posted by admin

Fire Element

The Fire Triplicity is represented by the choleric or bilious temperament, exhibiting a rash, feverish, easily-excited or impulsive nature with sudden fevers or illness, generally acute but usually of short duration.

Fiery types are energetic, explosive and volatile. They live by enthusiasm and faith in the future, they are adventurers, leaders and innovators. Their weakness is a tendency to burn themselves out and they should make sure their physical and emotional health is not neglected. They are impatient and react badly to obstacles and delays. They are also impractical, and rely on the earth signs to carry out their requirements.

The Fire Signs themselves (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) represent the vital spirit, the bodily heat and combustion, and all of them make for Action / Activity – be it political, military and speculative interests.

Related HOUSES : The Fire Signs naturally rule the 1st (body), 5th (soul), & 9th (spirit, mind) houses and are considered the Houses of Life or the Personal Houses.
Many planets in these houses makes the native dynamic, energetic, and philosophical.

Keywords: adventurous, ardent, arrogant, assertive, blunt, creative, egotistical, energetic, enthusiastic, exciting, explosive, forthright, honest, hot-blooded, hot-tempered, impatient, impractical, impulsive, initiating, intuitive, magnetic, masculine, optimistic, outgoing, passionate, positive, quick, spontaneous, strength, thoughtless, uncomplicated, vitalizing, volatile, warm

In Medical Astrology and Astro-Meteorology the Fire element is of the humour Choleric, being hot and dry. Planets that are such are the Sun and Mars.

ARIES: Cardinal Fire

Aries: The sign of Aries shows (in the chart) where you can initiate action immediately, forcefully and directly. The Cardinal Signs take action and Aries has a reputation for charging right in. The placement of the sign of Aries in your horoscope shows one of the places where you tend to take initiative and plunge right in. The other place you act this way is shown by the placement of Mars, the ruling planet of Aries.

LEO: Fixed Fire

Leo: Fixed signs like to stay put and have everything else around them move. Leo is Fixed Fire and shows where you are creative, where you can really put your heart into something. Leo is ruled by the Sun, and, just as the Sun is the center of the solar system with the planets dancing around, so those with a Leo emphasis like to stay in the center of things and have everyone else dance around them. The house that has Leo on the cusp shows one place where you want to express yourself and receive praise or admiration. That can also be the place where you want to be treated royally and have others do things for you. The motto of Leo is “Nothing but the best”. It takes very hard work to be the best and Leo is the place where we don’t want to be embarrassed by failure. This means that we will either work very hard there and tend towards perfectionism, or give up the struggle, be lazy, and fool ourselves into thinking that we are above it all.

SAGITTARIUS: Mutable Fire

Sagittarius: Mutable signs are communicators. Gemini gathers facts quickly. Virgo gathers them slowly and carefully, but just as Virgo is the sign of details, Sagittarius is the sign of the Big picture. Never mind this fact or that. How does it all fit together? Sagittarius is Mutable Fire, the sign of wisdom. Its placement in your horoscope shows where and how you can understand things and make sense of it all. In your horoscope, the house with Sagittarius on the cusp is one of the places where you tend to feel optimistic, safe and secure, so you will be more adventurous in this area of your life. Since “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”, this can be a place of your biggest achievements. On the negative side, it will show the place where you can be over optimistic, charge in thinking that nothing can go wrong, and fall flat on your face. The other place in your horoscope where this will tend to be true is the house position of Jupiter, ruling planet of Sagittarius.

CLASSICAL RULERSHIPS (traditional astrology)

This set of signs is ruled by Sun by day and Jupiter by night. Given that the Aries triplicity comprises Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, we might expect that it would be ruled by Mars, Sun and Jupiter, the respective rulers of these signs. However, Mars cannot be accepted as a ruler because it is assigned to the nocturnal sect and this triplicity is diurnal. Saturn is therefore substituted for Mars and acts as a co-ruler for the triplicity both day and night. Considered hot and fiery. Aries trigon – Sun, Jupiter, Saturn Cancer trigon – Venus, Mars, Moon Libra trigon – Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter Capricorn trigon – Venus, Moon, Mars Most early astrologers used all three planets, rotating their priority by day and night, but many later ones, including Lilly, chose to use only the principal rulers. Perhaps they rejected the convoluted logic that lay behind the definition of sect, or perhaps they were confused by Ptolemy who only mentions two rulers for the Aries and Capricorn triplicities, yet mentions three rulers for the others!
