Quadrants and Hemispheres of the Astrological Houses

The Quadrants and houses begin with the Ascendant which is also the 1st house. In the chart above it is found on the left at the 9 o’clock position.
It is 13 Leo 04 which is 13 degrees of Leo and 04 minutes. The numbers in the inner circle identify the houses.
FIRST QUADRANT, Houses 1,2,3
Note the blue houses – this is the quadrant we are learning about.
The first quadrant (houses 1,2, and 3) is concerned with the emergence of the self individual and subjective awareness of self.
Here is the beginning of the outward expression of ego / personality.
Many planets in this quadrant makes for a person who is a strong individual, self assertive and self-motivated.
1st House is Angular, ruled by Aries / Mars, governs the Self.
2nd House is Suceedent, ruled by Taurus/Venus, governs one’s Values, Possessions.
3rd House is Cadent, ruled by Gemini/Mercury, governs Communication and Neighborhood.

SECOND QUADRANT, Houses 4,5,6
The second quadrant (houses 4,5,and 6) shows the differentiation and growth of the personal and subjective awareness of the others.
An emphasis on this quarter creates a person who is relationship oriented, needing companionship to feel satisfied with life. This can result in an instinct for successfully working with other people.
4th House is Angular, ruled by Cancer/Moon, governs the Home and Family.
5th House is Suceedent, ruled by Leo/Sun, governs Children and Pleasures.
6th House is Cadent, ruled by Virgo/Mercury, governs Daily Routine, Health.
THIRD QUADRANT, Houses 7,8,9

The third quarter (houses 7, 8, and 9) shows creative release, awareness of others, and objective awareness of others.
Many planets in this quarter work outwardly with much ambition. The cooperation of others is need for their pursuits. This combination makes for a person who is adaptable, cooperative when it suits them, and diplomatic.

8th House is Suceedent, ruled Scorpio/Pluto (Mars), governs Regeneration, Transformation.
9th House is Cadent, ruled by Sagittarius/Jupiter, governs Philosophy, Long Distance Travel.

FOURTH QUADRANT, Houses 10,11,12
The fourth quarter (houses 10, 11, and 12) shows social interaction, political power, spiritual identity, and objective awareness of self.
People with many planets in this quarter are the most independent and ambitious. They can make their own way without support from other people. The keywords for this quarter are uniqueness and self-sufficiency.
10th House is Angular, ruled by Capricorn/Saturn, governs Career, Business.
11th House is Suceedent, ruled Aquarius/Uranus (Saturn), governs Hopes, Wishes, Friends.
12th House is Cadent, ruled by Pisces/Neptune (Jupiter), governs Institutions, Self-Undoing.
HEMISPHERES
This vertical axis is called the Meridian. It represents power. Those placements on the Rising or Eastern half (sowing incarnation) show direct control over affairs of life and placements in the Setting or Western half (reaping incarnation) show others’ actions having an effect and resulting in "reactions."

The eastern hemisphere, the left half of the circle, is typified by an awareness of self, and one’s impact on the world. The keyword for people who have many planets in this hemisphere is that they mold situations. Their environment is acted upon by them, and carries their mark.

The western hemisphere, the right half of the circle, is typified by an awareness of others, and the impact of the world on a person. The keyword for people who have many planets in this hemisphere is that they are molded by situations. They become a product of the environment, as the environment’s mark is left on them.
The horizontal axis is called the Equator or Horizon. It represents consciousness. The planets above this line are the daytime planets (diurnal) and denote an extroverted and outgoing nature, while those below, are the nighttime ones (nocturnal) show a more introverted and subjective person.

The southern hemisphere, the top half of the circle, is typified by outward consciousness. People with many planets in this hemisphere are driven toward career and public life. There is much involvement with the community and the world at large. Recognition of their efforts is important, as it feeds the validation of their consciousness.

The northern hemisphere, the bottom half of the circle, emphasizes family and self. This hemisphere is typified by subjective consciousness. Goals are oriented to personal pursuits and pleasures. Achievement in life is done so with an eye toward inner goals. The self is held to be of importance over the collective.
