VirgoVirgo: Divinatory Meaning

Virgo is the only zodiacal sign represented by a female. She is gathering in wheat for the winter, taking care of one’s needs. These natives collect and digest facts. The virgin denotes purity as Virgos try to reach perfection.

Virgo is a sign of work, action and service. More than any other sign except Pisces, Virgo comes to this world to serve society, in medicine, technology, social service, and even hard labor. They have an innate ability to put things together, to connect, analyze, and keep track of details. This special kind of intelligence makes them great accountants, surgeons, inspectors, and designers. Their forte is any job that requires meticulousness and precision, in short – perfection.

Their minds need the challenge of practical problems to be solved rather than a routine. They are careful with money and their interest in statistics makes them excellent bookkeepers and accountants. They also make good editors, physicists and analytical chemists. They may also find success as welfare workers, ministering to those less fortunate than themselves. They can be doctors, nurses, psychologists, teachers, confidential secretaries, technologists, inspectors, musicians, critics, public speakers and writers especially of reference works such as dictionaries and encyclopedias. If they go in for a business career, their shrewdness and analytical ingenuity could tempt them into dishonesty, though they usually have enough moral sense to resist temptation. Females may find a career in fashion, for they have a flair for dress, in which they can be trend setters.

Virgo has trouble managing projects due to their expert detail orientation. They tend to lose sight of the entire picture and often cannot keep the details from fitting together (Can’t see the forest for the trees). They have an excellent eye for detail but they may be so meticulous that they neglect larger issues. Also, although they are realists, they may slow down projects by being too exact. The Virgo is the perfect assistant for any manager, for they have the ability to manifest any project to the details with the necessary precision.

Virgo’s greatest fault is in being too critical. Their analytical mind can degerate into fault-finding, criticism, and irritability. It easier to criticize and see what is wrong with others, but much harder to do criticize oneself, and this is the real lesson Virgos should learn. Fastidious reticence and modesty become old-maidishness and persnicketiness; balanced criticism becomes carping and nagging; and concern for detail becomes overspecialization. Virgoans are liable to indecision in wider issues and this can become chronic, turning molehills of minor difficulties into Himalayas of crisis. Their prudence can become guile and their carefulness, turned in on themselves, can produce worriers and hypochondriacs.

They have a deep-seated feeling of inadequacy. When they learn to love, honor and accept the other person as they are without criticism, judgment or trying to change them to their own standards. There is a sweetmess and lack of aggressiveness in these people which endears them to everyone. They are one of the hardest workers of the Zodiac. Their jittery nerves can cause many digestive ailments, so diet is important. The lesson and correction of Virgo is to understand that what seems faulty and wrong with others is a reflection of what is not good enough with them! That is the reason the work of a Virgo is to accept any person as he is, be patient and tolerant, and to learn to love with no reason.

Virgo rules the intestines, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, lower plexus, upper bowel. In general, it rules the assimilative system of the body. Virgos tend to worry and this makes them vulnerable to stomach and bowel troubles, including colic and ulcers. Males may have trouble with their sexual organs. Both sexes are strongly interested in health and esoteric cuisine and as their delicate stomachs require them to be careful about their diet, it is essential that they treat their fascination with exotic food with extreme care.

Kabbalistic Connection

Mercury in Hebrew is Kochav. Numerology value is Caf and Vav = 26 = Yud Hei Vav Hei and Caf Vet = 22 = the 22 letters of the Hebrew Aleph Bet, which indicates that Mercury is a planet of communication.

Financially it is not an easy month. Many important change might happen, the need for new business ventures, different ones with new consciousness. International business connections can take place.

The month of Elul is the completion of the lunar year. This month corresponds to the sign of Virgo, which is an earth sign and is ruled by Mercury. The sign of Virgo is connected to the practicality, working and serving others. People born in this month feel the need to achieve financial security through working, and also have a great need to serve society.

TaurusTaurus: Divinatory Meaning

As the second sign of the zodiac, Taurus represents the second stage in the evolution of man and his place in the universe. The first thing man uses are his physical senses. What he can see, touch, and physically hold represents the reality of his position. Taureans seek to conserve physical resources and possessively cling to people whom they regard as their own. Personal security is their motivating force.

Taureans are stubborn and go at their own pace : slow. They get frustrated if not given enough time to assimilate new things. But they accomplish things in life because of their tenacity in sticking to projects in which others have long since lost patience or stamina. A Fixed sign and Bull-headed (as their symbol shows), they can be extremely formidable to those who try to force them into anything. It takes a lot to anger a Taurean, but once they do, do not argue with them. It is best to approach them indirectly. They will willingly follow someone they trust.

Venus, planet of beauty and pleasure, rules Taurus, and it gives its natives a tactile and sensuous nature, who love personal comfort and physical pleasure. Possessions and material things are very important. Taurus is the money sign of the Zodiac. But money is only a symbol of value, not value itself. Be careful not to get locked into the world of matter. The unevolved can resort to possessiveness and hoarding, confusing security with control and the tangible.

Being Earth, however, they are pragmatic and practical. They have a love of Nature and the land, as well as art, and may have a very pleasant voice.

With a methodical nature, they do best with a regular routine. They are not fond of change. This can hamper them if taken too far, making them afraid to take a chance, too conservative in their outlook, and preferring the old tried and true to anything new, and succumbing to habit. Taureans should also watch their love of rich food as they are likely to put on weight.

The test of Taurus is to find what is of real value.

Taurus rules the throat, tonsils, and the thyroid gland, the cerebellum, neck, vocal chords, tongue, mouth, lower teeth, right eye of the male and left eye of the female, upper food pipe, the gums and the middle ear. Watch for throat infections, goiter and respiratory ailments such as asthma. There can be diseases of the generative organs, liver, and kidneys, and of abscesses and rheumatism. Because their body type has an inclination to physical laziness, Taureans can be overweight.

Kabbalistic Connection

The Book of Formation says, “He crowned the letter Pei and created with it Venus in the world and Thursday in the year and the left nostril in the soul, He crowned the letter Vav and created with it Taurus in the world and Iyar in the year and the left hand in the soul.”

The letters Pei and Vav control the month of Iyar, and the constellation of Taurus.

Iyar is the second month after Nissan, and is completely under the influence of the period known as the Counting of the Omer. When Moses took the Israelites out of Egypt, they received freedom, liberty, and liberation without any effort. For that reason, the Light of Passover disappeared; in order to give us the opportunity to work and earn all that Light that we received for free.

CapricornCapricorn: Divinatory Meaning

0 degrees of Capricorn is considered the beginning of the Winter season, the Winter Solstice. All Cardinal points are the seasonal changes of the solstices and equinoxes.

Capricorn, an earth sign, gives a very strong connection to the physical and material world, to world of the five senses, the world of limitations. The harder we work to elevate our consciousness over the limitations of the five senses and the material world, we can get to the desire stage of “mind over matter.” As natural ruler of the 10th house, it is the amplifier of what is attained (or not attained) in prestige, honor, and success. Traditional astrology says Capricornians have difficult lives, problems, particularly very hard destinies, life of struggles and many challenges, but like in everything, there is a paradox here. The more we are willing to take upon ourselves the hard destiny, the hard labor, overcoming all the obstacles – then we are getting stronger, by ambition, determination, hard labor and persistence we can overcome all the difficulties, that is why its known that the older the Capricorn gets, life become easier and better.

Capricorn is one of the most stable and serious of all zodiacal types. They are normally confident, strong willed and calm, hardworking, unemotional, shrewd, practical, responsible, persevering. They are reliable workers in almost any profession they undertake. They are the major finishers of most projects started by the ‘pioneering’ signs; with firm stick-to-it-ness they quickly become the backbone of any company they work for.

Materialism runs strong in this sign. Money is important for the power it wields in the outer world. Respect and reward have to be earned though. Wealth and power carry with them great responsibilities. Saturn represents the Cosmic Law – everything we do comes back to its source.

Capricorns can exhibit the highest or the lowest of natures. They have a sense of purpose and great strength. "How can I use this?" is very different from "How can I be of use?" That distinguishes the Cappy types.

Capricorn points out the need of actions and work, responsibility, maturity, and when the work is done the positive results will come.

Capricorn governs the knees and bony structure of the body, bones and skin, so its subjects may be liable to fractures and strains of the knees and other defects of the legs. Skin diseases from rashes and boils to leprosy (in countries where that disease is prevalent) are dangers, and digestive upsets may be caused by the tendency of Capricorns to worry or suppress emotions. Anemia, Bright’s disease, catarrh, deafness, rheumatism and rickets are also said to threaten the natives of this sign.

Kabbalistic Connection

The Zohar it says how all the Hebrew letters came to the Creator, one by one, asking Him to create the world with it. Each letter in the Hebrew alphabet it an antenna to draw energy, with the positive or the negative side in her. Eventually the Creator decided to create the world with the letter Bet which is Blessing. Saturn was created with the letter Bet that was given to it wisdom, even though Saturn is the planet of destruction, since it has no desire for anything that has to do with the body or the physical realm and that is why it cancels them. The letter Ayin created Capricorn. Together we get a very energetic and powerful combination, Ayin + Bet = the 72 Names of God which Moses used to split the Red Sea. Ayin Bet correlates to the Tetragrammaton (Yud Hei Vav Hei).

Tevet is one of the three negative months in the year, Tammuz (Cancer), Av (Leo) and Tevet (Capricorn). On the Tenth day of this month started the siege around the walls of Jerusalem, on the seventeen day of Tammuz, the walls of Jerusalem were broken through and on the ninth day of Av happened the destruction of the Temple. Tevet brings out and manifests all the negative energy of Saturn – difficulties, pressures and problems of all kinds.

About Leo

LeoLeo: Divinatory Meaning

Leo is the most vital of the signs and has tremendous strength. There is great courage inherent in this sign, but they must temper it with responsibility and self-discipline or they will have many problems. They have a self-assurance and confidence that boosts those around them – and can anger others who envy or want their power.

They have a powerful intelligence and are very creative; have a broad philosophical, sometimes religious, outlook. Those who are devout may become very obstinate in upholding traditional beliefs and will cling tenaciously, but with complete sincerity, to practices and doctrines which liberal thinkers regard as absurdly out-of-date. This stubborness is a trademark of all the Fixed signs.

The unevolved Leo will display extreme arrogance, autocratic pride, haughtiness, self-centeredness, power-lust, greed for flattery, boastfulness, pomposity, snobbish superiority, and overbearing, and intolerant disdain of underlings. Leo’s downfall is not relegating authority to others. They think they have to do it all and many succumb to heart attacks because they just wear themselves out.

In relationships, Leo has a strong loyalty to those they love. As their opposite, Aquarius, can be too detached, Leo can be too attached. They need to learn a bit of detachment and let the Sun shine out to others. No one can be a true leader unless he/she is willing to be the servant of all. Their gift to the world is an Understanding Heart.

Leo rules the heart, sides, and upper back (spine). Its natives are subject to a number of ailments: pain in the back and lungs, spinal complaints, diseases of the heart and blood, sickness in ribs and sides, convulsions, fevers; and the plague, pestilence, jaundice, and some afflictions of the eyes.

Kabbalistic Connection

Av is one of the three most negative months of the year. The other two are Tevet (Capricorn), because it is ruled by Saturn, which a planet of harsh judgments, and Tammuz (Cancer) because it is ruled by the moon. Av – sign of Leo – is ruled by the sun, and is the Left Column of the fire signs. This indicates an added influence of fire which is expressed as judgments, burning and consuming fire with no balance. This is the reason we experience a polarity of events, some negative and some positive. The Book of Formation says the letter Tet created Leo and the letter Caf created the sun. Together we get the energetic combination that controls the month of Av and Leo.

At the center of our solar system, the sun brings each of the planets light, heat and life, without which organic life could not exist.

But with the Egyptians the beginning of the year is not Aquarius, as among the Romans, but Cancer. For the star Sothis (Sirius) borders on Cancer, which star the Greeks denominate (Greek word) or the Dog. When this star rises they celebrate the calends of the month, which begins their year; because this is the place of the heavens where generation commences, by which the world subsists.

Pluto in Capricorn 2008-2024

posted by admin

PlutoPluto entered the sign of Capricorn on January 2008 and remains therein until 2024.

Regardless of what modern astronomers think of Pluto, it is still a potent and ultimately powerful indicator in the astrological chart.

Pluto was Lord of the Underword and still rules issues of rebirth (Phoenix rising from the ashes), transformation, hidden knowledge, alchemy – incredibly intense.

And indeed, Pluto rules Scorpio, the only sign with three symbols: the Scorpion who would rather sting itself to death than miss the revenge opportunity (lowest version), the Eagle who soars above all the fray, and the Phoenix Transformed rising out of its own destruction – ashes (highest expression of Scorpio).

Anyone who has survived a major Pluto transit knows what I am talking about. I had a transits over my Asxcendant and yes, it was a complete breaking-down and rebuilding experience.

So now Pluto shifts into the earthy pragmatic sign of Capricorn. It can bog down, confined by Saturnian structions and strictures – or it can build amazing Enlightenment into Saturn’s practicality. It can imbue Pluto’s transformation with solid footings and usefulness.

As Pluto leaves Sagittarius we move from huge changes in the religious and philosophical realms, changtes in our perceptions of foreign cultures – to the Tangible, the Solid, the Reliable.

Pluto digs deep to uncover the truth – so what is it we need to investigate in Big Business (Saturn ruled) – look at the banking and auto conglomerates. How have we built the sturctures in our lives – our financial world, our personal ties, our health issues. Anything we have neglected will be tested.

Get busy and find out (pay attention to) what’s not working, what is corrupted, and begin woring on the re-building – the Trqansformation. There will be issues of power, control, greed (Blogojevich), sex, abuse, old crystallized concepts and imbalance energy being pushed up to reveal itself for awareness and transmutation. Saturn ruling the public 10th house, the Truth will be exposed so change can happen. And it drags out – Pluto moves ever so slowly – only about 2 degrees a year!

It is time to get serious and tend to business. There is no escaping it. That’s is Saturn’s message. Wherever it is in your chart, is where you need to get focused. It is where you will be focused!

Just look at what has already happened in politics, organizations, businesses, and governments! Sagittarian insights now must be incorporated in the structures you build today. And what are these "structures" – just the everyday choices you make. They determine your future. That is how you build a life. What do you believe in? Live it!

Ultimately, there will be areas of deconstruction so that you can build again. Starting over. It is not easy, not a happy experience, but it is there and cannot be ignored. For those willing to get into the core and to look inside and to make the changes, your world and your life will improve immeasurably.

The Planet Venus

posted by admin

VenusVENUS is Earth’s closest neighbor and sometimes referred to as a sister planet. She represents our need for balance, love, peace, and harmony. Venus rules diplomacy, cooperation, beauty, nature, the arts, affection, social life, pleasure and happiness.

Venus represents pleasure, the enjoyment of relationships, loving and caring. It helps us to decide what is relevant to well being and happiness, what is irrelevant, and what is bad. It is the urge to seek companionship and love to feel good about ourselves, so has to do with self-esteem. Venus is the subconscious desire to form unions with others, and is our willingness to co-operate. It also allows us to enjoy the things that bring pleasure – aesthetics as well as physical. It is not a highly energetic drive (it can be rather lazy), but one that enables us to seek relatedness.

Venus is the planet of love, higher emotions and artistic sensibility. The aspects and positions of Venus in a natal chart indicate how the subject deals with relationships, sexuality and social interaction, as well as their capacity for creating and appreciating beauty.

The feminine planet, influences affection, sex-appeal, attachments, calm, companionship, gentle, the sense of touch, unity, sympathy, harmony, evaluation, feelings, refined amusements, love, beauty, arts, music, colour and adornments, good humour, tact, generosity, warm, soothing and fruitful.

Venus shows our values and our need and capacity for love. This planet shows aesthetic preferences and the natural attraction we feel to people and things. Venus represents the need for inner and outer harmony and balance. It is associated with the inner feelings we have when we compare and make judgements. Venus also represents sisters and other influential women, as well as our experience of the emotional harmony between our parents. The Sign Venus is in indicates how our values are coloured and what specific aesthetic styles we adopt. Choices of partner are strongly influenced by this Sign position. Venus is always found close to the Sun in the horoscope – either in the same sign, or in one of the two signs alongside the Sun. The House Venus is in shows in what particular area of life we find love, companionship and partnership, and where we have the strongest and most rewarding emotional contacts. This House shows what we value specifically, and where we can be enriched both emotionally and financially. Aspects to Venus indicate specific experiences in love relationships and the individual psychological needs that colour our judgement when making choices.

Venus takes about 1 year to transit the chart. (up to 1°15’ / day)

" This Venus graceth, here she seats her Throne,
And in the World’s high Face erects her own;
That Face, whose awful force Mankind admires,
And yields Obedience to her pleasing Fires:
Her charge is Marriage, for what else can prove
The Office of the beauteous Queen of Love?
Pleasure’s her aim, yet she forgets her Ease
And puts on Providence on design to please
My Muse grows weary, and contracts her pace,
Refusing to expatiate in her Race."

Astronomica, Book II Chapter 33, Verse 21, Marcus Manilius c 10 AD.

MYTHOLOGY

Aphrodite was known as the Greek goddess of love, beauty, sexual desire and fertility. According to Hesiod, she was born when Uranus, father of the gods, was castrated and his genitals thrown into the sea. Uranus’s genitalia and the sea foam it mingled with are the supposed parents of Aphrodite, who rose from the foam and was carried by waves to Cyprus. This is why she was named Aphrodite, which literally means "foam-born", and is also known as Kypris and Cytherea.

In Roman Mythology Venus was said to be the daughter of Jupiter, although she was born of the Sea and the Sky and came to earth in a shell from under the sea. The Roman goddess of love and beauty was originally a vegetation goddess and patroness of gardens and vineyards.

Aphrodite had affairs with gods and humans but her true love was Mars. She was forced by the god Jupiter to marry Vulcan, a blacksmith. Venus had a son named Cupid, the mischievous and winged god of love. He was her constant companion; and, armed with bow and arrows, he shot the arrows of desire into the bosoms of both gods and men. He later married Psyche and they produced a child named Pleasure.

Venus is, of course, associated with affairs of the heart. The last great temple of Venus was built by the emperor Hadrianus near the Colosseum in 135 AD.

IN THE CHART

Astrologically Venus is seen as the feelings, an indicator of your values. A planet of fortune, pursuit of pleasure, beauty in form, social interactions, an indicator in your chart of your inclinations towards romance, marriage and other partnerships.

Refiner of the aesthetic and artistic and giver of the sentiments of love and sharing. Venus is the goddess of love and beauty and where Mars uses physical force, Venus seduces and persuades.

All things that are pleasant and leisurely are symbolised by Venus. Her domain is music, art, games, dancing, acting and all things that are used for adornment or ornamentation, such as perfumes, cosmetics, jewelry and fine fabrics.

As Lady Luck she has special significance for gamblers. A feminine planet, her action is to pacify, harmonise, make beautiful and soften. How Venus will manifest her energy, a soft and cooling one which seeks harmony and an indicator of your inclinations and values, depends on the horoscope as a whole. The Sign (and its Element), the House in which if falls, and the Aspects to the other planets will all have a bearing on any interpretation.

MEDICAL VENUS

TFrom the days of Hippocrates, father of Western medicine (Fifth century B. C.), the ancients emphasized the value of diet and exercise as the prime methods of restoration of health and longevity. The ancient figurines of women, known as the "Venus statues", depict a bottom heavy, obese figure of a woman. Some of these Paleolithic figurines are believed to be more than 20,000 years old. They are found in all areas of Europe, as far away as Russia, and they all show women with huge, fat hips and buttocks. Today, it is known as the "Venus Syndrome", the connection between Venus and the lower body fat, today referred to as "cellulite" – the thickening and laxity of connective tissue beneath the skin, around gelatinous pockets of fat, which traps toxic matter and body wastes.

Venus is the principle of harmony, equilibrium, homeostasis, and thus rules the body’s hormonal secretions. The Moon and Venus rule strongly over the affairs and health of women. It rules over all regulatory and secretory functions, especially the female sexual hormones. It rules the chemical composition of the body’s fluids, acidity and alkalinity, sodium-potassium balance, and the other mineral ions. The planet is basically benefic in action, but in hard aspect frequently points to numerous little disorders, showing a general relaxation of the system and body tone, but eventually debilitates the native as the years pass. Its afflictions are generally maladies due to indiscretions in diet and habit.

PATHOLOGICAL TENDENCIES: Venus has traditionally been associated with diabetes. Hard aspects to Venus point to lack of homeostasis, lack of tone, congestion and swelling of the body’s tissues; cyst formation; and kidney disorders. Venus also rules over the veins and indicates such disorders as varicose veins, hemorrhoids, vascular spiders, etc.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: Homeostasis, hormonal balance, ovaries, kidneys, venous system, tissue tone, nutritional functions, skin and complexion.

Venus rules the throat, kidneys, veins, ovaries and generative system, hair, thyroid gland, oesophagus, skin, social diseases, anorexia.

CLASSICAL ASSOCIATIONS

She is well known amongst the vulgar by the name of the Evening Star or Hesperus; and that is when she appears after the Sun is set: common people call her the Morning Star, and the learned Lucifer, when she is seen long before the rising of the Sun.

Physical descriptions:

Venus represents a man of fair, but not tall stature, his complexion being white, tending to a little darkness, which makes him more lovely; very fair lovely eyes, and a little black; a round face and not large, fair hair, smooth, and plenty of it, and it usually of a light brown colour; a lovely mouth and cherry lips, the face pretty fleshy, a rolling wandering eye, a body very delightful, lovely and exceedingly well shaped, one desirous of trimming and making himself neat and complete both in clothes and body, a love dimple in his cheeks, a steadfast eye, and full of amorous enticements.

In trees and plants she rules Sweet apples, the white rose, the fig, the white sycamore; wild ash, turpentine-tree, olive, sweet oranges, mugwort, ladies mantle , sanicle, balm, vervain, walnuts, almonds, millet, valerian, thyme, amber, laudanum, civet or musk, coriander, French wheat, peaches, apricots, plums, raisins.

Manners when well dignified:

Venus signifies a quiet man, not given to law, quarrel or wrangling, not vitious, pleasant, neat and spruce, loving mirth in his words and actions, clean in apparel, rather drinking much than gluttonous, prone to venery, often entangled in love-matters, zealous in their affections, musical, delighting in baths and all honest merry meetings, or masks and stage-plays; easy of belief, and not given to labour or taking any pains, a company-keeper, cheerful, nothing mistrustful, a right virtuous man or woman, often had in some jealousy, yet no cause for it.

Manners when badly placed:

When Venus is ill-placed, then the man is riotous, expensive, wholly given to looseness and lewd companies of women, not regarding his reputation, coveting unlawful beds, incestuous, an adulterer; fanatical, a mere skip-jack, of no faith, no repute, no credit; spending his means in alehouses, taverns, and amongst scandalous, loose people; a mean lazy companion, not careful of the things of this life or anything religious; a mere atheist and natural man.

VENUS 75 / 1225

“It is affirmed by Magicians, that there are certain tables of numbers distributed to the seven planets, which they call the sacred tables of the planets, …

“The fifth table is of Venus, consisting of a square of seven drawn into it self, viz. of fourty nine numbers, whereof seven on each side and Diameter make 175. and the sum of all is 1225. And there are over it divine names with an Intelligency to good, and spirit to evil; And there is drawn out of it the Character of Venus, and the spirits thereof. This being engraven on a Silver plate, Venus being fortunate, procureth concord, endeth strife, procureth the love of women, conduceth to conception, is good against barreness, causeth ability for generation, dissolves enchantments, and causeth peace between man, and woman, and maketh all kind of Animals and Cattle fruitful; and being put into a Dove-house, causeth an increase of Pigeons. It conduceth to the cure of all melancholy distempers, and causeth joyfulness; and being carryed about travellers make them fortunate. But if it be formed upon Brass with an unfortunate Venus, it causeth contrary things to all that hath bin above said."

The Planet Saturn

posted by admin

SATURN represents the energy of discipline, limitation and structure. It empowers us to apply self-regulating habits,  the desire and ability to achieve maturity and status by living our lives according to standard norms of acceptable behavior. It is connected to family and the feeling of security that traditions bring. Saturn has a negative side too, as do all the planets, because in the desire to conform to standards set by time and hierarchies, it can make us fearful of change and self defeating, limiting growth through conservatism or fear of change. We use this planetary model in establishing routines and goals that are comfortable, so that it works to balance some of the expansive drive of Jupiter. It is the side of us that is law abiding, rather than revolutionary, and enables us to build solid, worthwhile structures in life that allow us to prosper through preserving and regulating life. Ambitions and goals that are established with the Saturn side of the psyche are usually attainable but demand hard, slow, sometimes laborious application of set routines and standards. Negatively it can express pessimism.

Saturn is the planet of structure, limitation, experience and discipline. A heavily afflicted Saturn in a natal chart can leave subjects selfish, rigid and limited in their ability to interact meaningfully with others. Favorable influences can make them ambitious, successful and self-disciplined.

It is the ringed planet that encloses and encircles what is within its realm. It defines limits, form and structure. It represents caution, conservatism, realism, pessimism, orthodoxy and old age. It brings depression, poverty, stagnation, restriction and misfortune. It elicits depth of thought, ambition, perseverance, and the desire for status. It represent the State, the Establishment, politics, organization and civil authority. It institutes discipline and repression, imposes order, and establishes justice. It signifies miners, land owner, officials, and administrators. It represents the world and all its laws. It rules the tenth sign, Capricorn, the eleventh sign, Aquarius, and the Tenth and Eleventh Houses. Its orbit lasts twenty-nine and a half years.

MYTHOLOGY:

In the Egyptian legend Isis (Jupiter) swathes Osiris (Saturn).

This became the Greek legend of Saturn too. Cronus (Kronos or Chronus) was warned that his child would be his downfall and took to eating his offspring. Zeus, however, escaped this fate and usurped his father to become king of the gods.

All men are eventually usurped by their children.

The reign of Saturn was celebrated by the poets as the Golden Age which was later celebrated by the Romans as Saturnalia. Along with the Solstice celebrations, this holiday later became the Christian Christmas.

The Romans took Cronus and transformed him into their Saturn – a god of agriculture – and again the symbol came to represent the conquest of time and death.

One very strange fact about Saturn is that the rings were not clearly seen and understood until Huygens who discovered of Titan in 1655, yet they were known about by the ancient Greeks and Romans as well as other ancient peoples, including some native Americans.

Saturn takes approximately 29 years to cycle the 12 signs of the zodiac.

IN THE CHART

Saturn is the furthest planet in the solar system visible to the naked eye. As such it represents limits. Saturn in the horoscope shows where the greatest challenges are to be found, and the hardest lessons learned. This planet shows where rigid systems restrict growth. It is connected with the parents, authorities and rules. Saturn brings strength through self-limitation, discipline and planning.

As Saturn takes nearly 30 years to go around the Sun, it will be in any one Sign over a period of about 2½ years. Saturn in a Sign therefore represents cultural and authoritarian influences and trends in society. It shows the influence of society on the individual, and where in society the greatest efforts are made to build up lasting structures.

Saturn’s House position shows where specifically you will experience the greatest challenges and limitations. This is an area which will absorb much of your time. No matter how hard you try to avoid commitment in this area, you will be forced by circumstances to overcome your fears and become an expert in the field indicated.

Aspects to Saturn show areas of the personality where you will feel lack of confidence. In these areas you will be shy, repressed, desperate for recognition, frustrated. Normally you will build up self-reliance and independence in the part of your character Saturn affects after around 30 years.

But now, what Images they did attribute to the Planets, although of these things very large volumes have been written by the ancient wise men, so that there is no need to declare them here, notwithstanding I will recite a few of them; for they made, from the operations of Saturn, Saturn ascending in a stone, which is called the Loadstone, the Image of a man, having the countenance of an Hart, and Camels seet and sitting upon a Chayr or Dragon, holding in his right hand, a sithe [scythe], in his left hand a dart; which image they did hope would be profitable for prolongation of life; for Albumasar in his book Sadar, proveth that Saturn conduceth to the prolongation of life; where also he telleth that certain regions of India being subject to Saturn, there men are of a very long life and dye [die] not unless by extream old Age: They made also an other Image of Saturn for length of dayes, in a saphire, at the hour of Saturn, Saturn ascending or fortunately constituted, whose figure was an old man setting upon an high chayre [chair], having his hands lifted up above his head, and in them holding a fish or Sickle, and under his feet a bunch of Grapes, his head covered with a black or dusky coloured cloth, and all his garments black or dark coloured: They also make this same Image against the Stone and diseases of the kidnyes [kidneys], viz. in the hour of Saturn, Saturn ascending with the third face of Aquarius: they made also from the operations of Saturn, an Image for the encreasing in power, Saturn ascending in Capricorn; The form of which was an old man leaning on a staff having in his hand a crooked sickle, and cloathed in black.

They also made an Image of melted Copper, Saturn ascending in his rising, viz. in the first degree of Aries, or which is more true in the first degree of Capricorn, which Image they affirm to speak with a mans voyce; They made also out of the operations of Saturn, and also Mercury, an Image of cast metall, like a beautifull man, which they promised would foretell things to come, and made it on the day of Mercuy, on the third hour of Saturn, the sign of Gemini ascending, being the house of Mercury, signifying prophet, Saturn and Mercury being in conjunction in Aquarius in the ninth place of Heaven, which is also called God; Moreover let Saturn have a trine aspect on the ascendent, and the Moon in like manner, and the Sun have an aspect on the place of conjunction. Venus obtaining some Angle may be powerfull and occidentall; let Mars be combust by the Sun, but let it not have an aspect on Saturn and Mercury; for they said, that the splendor of the powers of these Stars was diffused upon this Image, and it did speak with men, and declare those things which are profitable for them.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa: Of Occult Philosophy, Book II (circa 1510)

MEDICAL SATURN

In Greek, Saturn is known as "kronos", from which our word "chronic" is taken. Permanent disease is signified by the placement of Saturn in the chart, and its course and attack by the motion of other planets. Its action signifies binding, crystallizing, cold, dry, hardening, depleting, obstructing, retarding, and suppressing. The afflictions of Saturn are for prolonged periods, whereas Mars afflicts more acutely, for short periods.

Saturn’s placement in the chart is associated with the solid matter of one’s body, ruling all dense components and processes. Saturn in any part of the horoscope is considered an affliction to the zodiac sign, house, and parts of the body so ruled. It tends to weaken and make one more liable to disease, and the sign and parts ruled are usually considered the most vulnerable, even to cause death through disease and malignancy. Those parts ruled at birth by Saturn indicate reduced nerve and energy supply, insufficient oxygenation, accumulation of tissue acids, and thus fibrositis, myositis, and rheumatism. The planet Saturn indicates subnormal conditions by inhibition, retention, and suppression. The medical astrologers at the turn of the century stated that carcinoma is most liable to occur in that part ruled by the sign that Saturn is in at birth. Saturn also has rulership over the blood’s clotting factors, the parathyroids, and calcium metabolism.

Saturn’s afflictions come from lack of self control, spiritual development, and materialistic tendencies. When manifested negatively, Saturn’s principle action is quite simply fear. The hard aspects indicate opportunity to come to terms with a specific kind of fear. The type of fear is indicated by Saturn’s aspects (conjunct, square or opposition) to the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury or Venus.

PATHOLOGICAL TENDENCIES: Typical Saturnine problems are chronic skin complaints, stiffness of the joints and muscles, deformity; dental problems; deafness; depression; slowed atrophy and functioning of the body’s processes; scleroses of the body’s tissues, rheumatism from accumulated tissue wastes in the sign or house of the nativity chart.

Subluxations of the spine are partial dislocations of the vertebra which impinge and put pressure on the nerves passing through them, shutting off nerve supply and causing irritation and pain leading to disease. Along the lines of chiropractic philosophy, health is maintained by a correctly aligned spine that requires periodic adjustments by manipulative therapy. Palpation and X-ray discover these deviations but your astrological chart can identify weak areas that will be chronically affected. Each sign of the zodiac, and malefics placed in them, tend to afflict the vertebra, especially the vertebra ruled by the sign in which Saturn is found at birth. Such subluxations tend to be the major one throughout life. For example, the sign Libra rules the kidneys and if Saturn is here at birth, the 10th, 11th, 12th dorsals, and 1st lumbar will be afflicted the most, and this is known before examination. From a chiropractic or osteopathic standpoint, the emphasis of treatment should be in the area where Saturn was afflicting at birth as this area will show stasis, restrictions, stiffness, and congestion.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: Skin, bone and joints, teeth, hearing, ossicification.
Saturn rules the teeth, bones, spleen, right ear, sense of hearing, circulation, constipation, vitamin deficiency, fibrous tumors.

SATURN and DEATH

Now then, if Saturn holds the lordship of death, he brings about the end through long illness, phthisis, rheumatism, colliquations, chills and fever, and splenic, dropsical, enteric, or hysteric conditions, and such as arise through excesses of cold. … Thus, then, those who depart from life in the way described die natural deaths, whenever the lords of death happen to be in their own or in kindred natural characters, and if no planet that is able to do injury to make the end more remarkable overcomes them. They die, however, by violent and conspicuous means whenever both the evil planets dominate the destructive places, either in conjunction, or in quartile, or in opposition, or also if one of the two, or both, seize upon the sun, or the moon, or both the luminaries. “It is affirmed by Magicians, that there are certain tables of numbers distributed to the seven planets, which they call the sacred tables of the planets, …

The first of them [table] is assigned to Saturn, and consists of a square of three, containing the particular numbers of nine, and in every line three every way, and through each Diameter making fifteen. Now the whole sum of numbers is fourty five. Over this are of Divine names set such names as fill up the numbers with an Intelligency to what is good, with a spirit to what is bad, and out of the same numbers is drawn the seal, or Character of Saturn, and of the spirits thereof, such as we shall beneath ascribe to its table. They say that this table being with a fortunate Saturn engraved on a plate of lead, doth help to bring forth, or birth, and to make a man safe, and powerfull, and to cause success of petitions with princes, and powers: but if it be done with an unfortunate Saturn, that it hinders buildings, plantings, and the like, and casts a man from honours, and dignities, and causes discords, and quarrellings, and disperses an Army.

The Planet Mercury

posted by admin

MERCURY rules your intellect, your mind, logic and reasoning power, perception, speaking & writing. It shows the capacity to rationalize, express abstracts, imagine, and mentally identify with the world. It is connected to the nervous system and physical co-ordination. This planet represents the urge to use verbal, mental and negotiating skills to express ourselves imaginatively and factually. It governs all forms of communication.

Mercury rules the nervous system, solar plexus, bowels, arms, mouth, tongue, eyesight, ears, nervousness, sciatica, mental disorders, diarrhoea, ulcers, warts, moles.

The mind (Mercury) is the link between the soul and the personality; it is the link between heaven and earth, both of which are within us.

Mercury takes about 1 year to transit the chart. (up to 2°30’ / day).

From the operations of Mercury, they made an Image at the hour of Mercury, Mercury ascending in Gemini, the form of which was an handsome young man, bearded, having in his left hand a rod in which a serpent is twyned about, in his right carrying a dart, having his feet winged; They report that this Image conferreth knowledge, eloquence, diligence in merchandizing and gain; moreover to beget peace and concord, and to cure feavers; They made another Image of Mercury, Mercury ascending in Virgo, for good will, wit and memory; The form of which was a man sitting upon a chaire, or riding on a Peacock, having Eagles feet, and on his head a crest, and in his left hand holding a cock or fire.

IN THE CHART

The Sign Mercury is in shows the way we communicate and the psychological areas in which our mental talents lie. Mercury is the fastest of all planets and cleaves to the Sun, either being in the same Sign as the Sun or one of the Signs on either side of the Sun. The House Mercury is in shows the particular area in which our mental talents are put to practical use. This is the area in which we realize our need to make contact and increase our learning. Aspects to Mercury show mental talents and communication styles in a very specific way. They indicate our individual interests and abilities.

The planet influences duality, the ability to communicate, through mental and nervous co-ordination and transmission. Intellectual faculties, curiosity, gossip, study, knowledge, observation, perception, facts, understanding, interpretation and expression. Mercury retrogrades 3 times a year and takes approximately one year to cycle the 12 signs of the zodiac.

MEDICAL MERCURY

Physically, it is connected to the nervous system and physical co-ordination; it rules the arms, hands, lungs, and shoulders. Mercury, when well placed in the nativity chart, indicates a good and balanced mind. It rules the cerebral hemispheres. Ill-aspected and afflicted, it shows a tendency to various disorders of mental reasoning, bad judgment, nervous disease, and tendency to gamble, swindle, insomnia, and a lack of spiritual calm. The location in the chart shows what body parts may be prone to neuralgia.

Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo, therefore it manifests in diseases related to respiratory and digestive disorders, particularly of nervous origin. Physiologically, Mercury rules the respiration and breath. Mercury afflicted at birth indicates a tendency to shallow breathing. The Hindus believe rhythmic breathing is necessary for direct link between the soul and mind. Unrhythmic breathing severs this connection leading to nervous conditions, those easily influenced by others, proneness to depression, and even insanity. Proper and unregulated breathing beginning in early life leads to a cascade of pathological actions including lack of intellectual development, oxygen deficient blood, tendency to overeat since the diaphragm does not "massage" the stomach due to stifled breathing, lymphatic stasis since breathing opens the lymph channels, and lethargy due to lack of vital force and sluggish pranic currents.

Mercury is considered a neutral planet, in that its transmissions are governed by the aspects to other planets in the chart. When Mercury conjuncts the Sun, the ego is involved; aspected to the Moon, the subconscious and habits; to Jupiter, exaggeration, etc. When Mercury’s nervous messages are distorted by the rays of another planet, inaccurate reception of information and inappropriate neural commands are likely. Simply, response does not match stimulus resulting in unbalanced behavior. If the large planets are involved, this can translate into important health consequences.

PATHOLOGICAL TENDENCIES: Mercury’s chief influence is on the nerves. In regards to aches and pains, the placement of Mercury in the sign of body rulership shows tendency to affliction when ill-aspected. Thus, Mercury in Aries shows the tendency to headaches, in Taurus a tendency to laryngitis and sore throats, in Gemini chest pains, etc. To offset Mercury afflictions and thus reduce tendency to aches and pains, the native must learn proper and rhythmic breathing. Taking up study of yoga or Chinese Ch’i Kung would be of great benefit.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: Nervous system, nervous faculties; breathing, the hands, the touch; organs of speech and hearing.

Mercury, more than all the planets will usually partake of the influence of that planet: if with Saturn then heavy, with Jupiter more temperate, with Mars more rash, with the Sun more gentle, with Venus more jesting, with the Moon more shifty.

When Mercury is oriental, the complexion is honey colour, or tanned; the stature of the body not very high, but well jointed, small eyes, not much hair; in very truth, according to the height of body, very well composed, but still a defect in the complexion, viz. swarty brown, and in the tongue, viz. all for his own ends.

Beans, three leaved-grass, the walnut and walnut-tree; the filbert-tree and nut; the eldertree, adderstongue, dragonwort, twopennygrass, lungwort, aniseed, cubebs, marjoram.

Herbs that are used for the muses and divination, such as vervain, the reed.

Of drugs, treacle, hiera, diambra.

Manners when well dignified:

When well dignified, Mercury represents a man of a subtle and political brain, intellect, and cogitation; an excellent disputant or logician, arguing with learning and discretion, and using much eloquence in his speech, a searcher into all kinds of mysteries and learning, sharp and witty, learning almost anything without a teacher; ambitious of being exquisite in every science, desirous naturally of travel and seeing foreign parts: a man of an unwearied fancy, curious in the search of any occult knowledge; able by his own genius to produce wonders; given to divination and the more secret knowledge; if he turn merchant, no man exceeds him in a way of trade or invention of new ways whereby to obtain wealth.

Manners when badly placed:

A troublesome wit, a kind of phrenetick man, his tongue and pen against every man, wholly bent to spoil his estate and time in prating and trying nice conclusions to no purpose; a great liar, boaster, prattler, busybody, false, a tale-carrier, given to wicked arts, as necromancy and such like ungodly knowledges; easy of belief, an ass or very idiot, constant in no place or opinion, cheating and thieving everywhere; a news-monger, pretending all manner of knowledge, but guilty of no true or solid learning; a trifler; a mere frantic fellow; if he prove a divine, then a mere verbal fellow, frothy of no judgement, easily perverted, constant in nothing but idle words and bragging.

Mercury = 260/2080

“It is affirmed by Magicians, that there are certain tables of numbers distributed to the seven planets, which they call the sacred tables of the planets, …

The sixth table is of Mercury resulting from the square of eight drawn into it self, containing sixty four numbers, whereof eight on every side and by both Diameters make 260. and the sum of all 2080. and over it are set divine names with an Intelligency to what is good, with a spirit to what is evil, and from it is drawn a Character of Mercury, and the spirits thereof; and if it be with Mercury being fortunate engraven upon Silver, or Tin, or yellow Brass, or be writ upon Virgin Parchment, it renders the bearer thereof gratefull, and fortunate to do what he pleaseth: it bringeth gain, and prevents poverty, conduceth to memory, understanding, and divination, and to the understanding of occult things by dreams: and if it be an unfortunate Mercury, doth all things contrary to these.

Fixed Signs

The Fixed Signs like the status quo and will put up with almost anything rather than have to make any kind of changes. They like a routine, their routine, they like knowing what to expect tomorrow and the next day, and for this reason, will stick to something longer than they should, rather than edit anything. They are determined, persistent, stubborn, strong-willed, resolute, stable. Their minds are penetrating, and memories are excellent.

These signs are the middle months of each season.

The Fixed Signs doe in order follow the Equinoctial and Tropicks; and they are called fixed, for that when Sun enters into them, the season of the yeer is fixed, and we doe more evidently perceive either Heat or Cold, Moysture or Drinesse. The fixed Signes are these, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius.
— William Lilly, Christian Astrology (1647)

Others are called immovable, and they are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius,
for they are the middle ones and the air stays in one element.

— Avraham Ibn Eza (1092-1167 C.E), The Book of Reasons

HOUSES: The Succeedent Houses (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th) correspond to the Fixed Signs. Not as powerful as the Angular placements, they denote financial affairs, stability, and purpose.

TAURUS (Fixed Earth)

Taurus: Keywords are stubborn, materialistic, sensual. The most "fixed" of the fixed signs. People with several placements here (particularly Venus) incline to the more material, sensual side of life — and laziness.

LEO (Fixed Fire)

Leo: Keywords are flamboyant, showy, playful. This is the sign of show business. No matter what the profession, the typical Leo sun-sign (and Sun-ruled) people act as if they are on stage. They carry themselves regally. They need the attention, the applause, no matter what their profession.

SCORPIO (Fixed Water)

Scorpio: Keywords are secretive, obsessive, sexy. Scorpio has a talent for uncovering secrets, but you will never get anything out of them that they are not willing to share. Scorpio placements are good for any profession involving healing (death and rebirth – Pluto-ruled) or investigating (detective, scientific investigations, etc.). The tendency to extremes affects other areas of the life as well. The negative side of Scorpio is jealously and vengeance.

AQUARIUS (Fixed Air)

Aquarius: Keywords are strange, unusual, shocking, far-out, peculiar, socially-unacceptable, and all these only on a slow day! Uranus-ruled, this is also the sign of genius. In the horoscope, it shows where we have the potential to transcend the ordinary. This is also the sign of friendship; Aquarius sun-sign folks are said to be closer to their friends than to their own families.

*Trivia: Did you know that the Tarot major arcana card The World features the 4 fixed signs in the corners?
